Books and Movies just go together, especially lately. There aren't nearly as may original screenplays as there use to be. Bob and I have seen three lately that were adapted from some of my favorite books.
Beowulf, the epic poem, was made into a great movie using new technology. One of the screenwriters if Neil Gaiman, a great fantasy writer. Not a children's movie, it is rated "R". If you want to read the poem before you see the film, I recommend Seamus Heaney's translation from Old English.
We saw Gone Baby Gone, adapted from the book by Dennis Lehane, one of my fav's. It's a serious drama about missing children. It was directed by Ben Afflick and he shared in. the screenwriting.
The last one we saw was No Country for Old Men. The author of the book is Cormac McCarthy, one of today's best authors. To me he's a living legend. This film is also not for children. It was directed by the Cohen brothers, Joel and Ethan. They also did the screenwriting. The film has all the "boy" things that make macho movies, drugs, violence, etc.
