Fun Monday

This is what Jo has asked for: I want to know about your first ‘celebrity’ crush. You know, the one you fancied from that band, or that film, or who read the news, or who won Gold at the Olympics.

I'm going to fudge. I'm old, I can do that.

When I was a teenager I met Bob, all the girls talked about him, many of the girls were wild about him. He was cute, but he had a reputation, not a bad boy reputation, but a reputation, none the less. He would never date anyone more than once. Ever.

Well, I didn't care, I was going steady with some one else. But, Bob was cute and he had a very nice hard-body, thanks to Uncle Sam. When I met him he'd just returned from U.S. Navy Survival School. He was lean and mean, not an ounce of fat on him. They taught him how to survive, if he ever had to parachute or crash land in enemy territory; how to eat what was available, like bugs and snakes. This was in 1961. Off he went on a West-Pac cruise. All the girls wrote him, including me. Some of the girls sent him copies of this song:

Marcie Blane-Bobby's girl

Real subtle, huh.

Time went by, and a couple of years passed, I was available, and Bob was out of the Navy. While he was on his 2nd West-Pac cruise, I written that I had broken up with my boyfriend, but Bob didn't call.

One day, in 1963, I said to my 17 year old sister, "If that Bob Prytz doesn't call, I'm never going out with him." She went to school and told Bob's 17 year old sister. That night Bob called and asked me to dinner and said he had tickets to the Ice Capades. Very convenient, having Ice Capades tickets!

We had a good time. I was 19, Bob was 23, I was too young to drink, but Bob had wine with dinner, he seemed very sophisicated. That was on a Saturday night. Bob called the next day and asked for a 2nd date! Boy, was my sister impressed, she actually called people and told them.

After the 2nd date, he asked me for a 3rd date, but I was busy. In those days girls dated lots of different boys, at the same time. So, he picked a different date. On our 5th date, Nov. 2, 1963, Bob asked me to marry him. He was tired of loosing dates to other guys. We were married 7 months later, May 2, 1964. I was still 19 and Bob was still 23.

We're still married, and still having fun.

This is a lot of shots, I was holding the camera, and we were trying to "look good". Well, we tried.

I enjoyed your ‘first flower photos’ and the ‘dog hunting’ was fun too, but I love your ‘first crush’ being the man you eventually married and are still with. Well done!
Hugs and blessings,

I loved this so much. And fudge is good, especially with chocolate. How cool that you got your man, and what a lovely couple you are. You look like happy people who laugh a lot. And your wedding pic is gorgeous.

Thanks for playing, and have a wonderfuy day.

What a super story. I loved it, and I am not really romantic (maybe just a bit for a happy ending). Thanks for sharing your story. My parents were married in September of '62 and are still married.
