The Hair God

I've been getting my hair cut by the same guy, Tom the Hair God, for over 30 years. When we started our cutting-edge relationship, he was in his 20's and I was in my 30's. We grew up and old together. My hair stages have been plentiful, the super short Sasson cut, the long and curly gypsy cut. I wore it in a bob, no relation, for years, and now it's short again. He never 'does' my hair, just cuts it; spends 60 minutes cutting, and making it perfect. He has owned 3 salons in this time, all in Costa Mesa, all just west of the 405, and South Coast Plaza. His current salon, The Crew, is very young and euro-hip, located in The Lab.

The past 10 years, I've lived a long way from Costa Mesa, about 70 miles. The drive takes between 1 & 1 1/2 hours, depending in traffic; so when I get me hair cut, I'm away from home about 4 hours. That's half a work day, to put it in perspective.

Since I've lived here, I've tried various hair cutters. I've asked different people - Who cuts your hair. Sometimes these new relationships last one haircut, sometimes up to a year, but I always end up going back to Tom the Hair God. It's been my experience that eventually these local cutters get lazy, and I'm in and out in less than 30 minutes, or they want to make me look 78, 88 or 98, you know helmet hair.

Recently I asked a twenty-something, at work, Who cuts your hair. I gave this new hair cutter a try, today. Her name is Monica the Hair Goddess. If she keeps this up, no more trips to Costa Mesa. Sorry, Tom the Hair God.

I love having my hair cut but I hate finding new hairdressers. It's a nightmare!

Short hair is the greatest. But you do have to find just the right person. I'm still looking. Just got a cut last week and wish I had never gotten into the chair. Yours looks great. May be just a little far from OH!

You are sooo beautiful. I have to tell you a creepy story...I had a dream about you a week ago. I dreamt I was in a bookstore trying to find the perfect book...and there YOU were! You were friendly & lovely & everything that I think you are. (Gushing too much am I?). I got your book last week. Just finishing a certain teen vampire novel & then I'm all over it.

Oh, and I remember Tom doing my hair back when the Jennifer Aniston haircut was in... he cut it super short and blew dry it so the curves would bend around the shape of my head and then it would grow out to look just like I wanted (so I would have to make the expensive & long distance trip.) He was right & it was lovely.

Hair looks good, like the cut! And I am with you, I haven't yet (in 7 years!) found a hairdresser near here that I like so the shameful thing is that I get my hair cut when I go back to Scotland (350 miles away) if the hairdresser can fit me in!

I don't know what I would do if I ever lost my own Hair Goddess. Probably shave my head and try and forget I ever had nice hair.

Looks good, maybe I'll have to drive that way to get my locks shaped. Although that would be a good vacation for me, time wise. :)
