This beautiful Bird of Paradise is in the parking lot of one of the beaches between here and La Jolla.
We were in La Jolla, at the Green Hospital, for Bob to see the neuro-surgeon. We finally have a date for him to have is back surgery, Sept. 25th. It took almost two years to get clearance from the cardiologist, and Bob probably avoided a major stroke or heart attack by doing this. After we left the hospital, we drove the coastal route home, instead of our usual, (shortest), route home. It was wonderful. We've lived in Murrieta for 10 years, now, and really love it, but I still miss the beach and ocean, especially that wonderful ocean smell. I got some great photos that I'll share, but for the past week, Bob and I have been sharing his PC. He's not thrilled, but we had a situation and this is the best solution.
Our situation was, two Saturdays ago, 1/3 of our house lost electrical power, hallway, guest bath, my office and the dining room. So, I went to the yellow pages and found an electrician who would sent some one out on the weekend. A really nice young man came, Jim. He worked 5 hours on Saturday, but couldn't find the problem. He'd find something, repair it, then we'd loose power, again. Jim kept looking. Finally, it was getting dark, and that make working in the attic difficult, so he offered to return on Sunday. After two more hours of work on Sunday he found the problem. Inside a wall in the garage was a smoking wire. Holy Cow, we had avoided a house fire, a la Aunt Sis. When I called to tell her about it she kept saying Holy Cow.
Jim said we needed to add a dedicated outlet and circuit breaker for my computer, and for the sake of the budget, the tariff for the weekend work was pretty stiff, I decided to wait until this week to have it done.
Now that you've read my tale, go visit Luiz to see the other Flower People.

Stunning photo of the Bird of Paradise. You have presented to show the 'bird' very well.
I am so glad that things are going well both for your husband and finding the smoking wire before there was a tragedy! What a scare that must have been.

Gorgeous picture Jan, such a beutiful flower. And happy to hear your husband can have his back surgery. Hey, what a coincidence, my son works for Barnes and Noble here in Virginia. He was born in Long Beach, and we lived in San Diego for many years, so we know La Jolla well and used to visit the Cove all the time. I still miss that area and having lived near the ocean most of my life, miss the smell of it and always will, but I do love Virginia.
Jan: Lovely capture of a very special flower.
