Our hostess is M for Misformisanthrope. This is our assignment:
Do you have a piece of jewelry or other item that holds great personal significance for you, and that you wear or keep with you every day? Show us a photo of your talisman, and tell us why it is so important to you.
My talisman is a charm of Bob's LAPD badge. I've worn it for decades.
Bob was active duty LAPD for 28 1/2 years. It was an exciting job for him; he saw tons of action. He was at the SLA shoot-out, and in the thick of the last LA riots. He spent all his LAPD career assigned in the "South-end" of Los Angeles. He worked many details. He was a patrol copper. He was a training officer, ie. 1 Adam 12, if you're old enough to remember that TV program. He worked vice, undercover. During that time he wore his hair shoulder length, and looked pretty grubby at work. Once, he dropped our daughter off at middle school. She was soooo embarrassed when her friends asked if that was her Mom!
He spent the majority of his career as a detective. There are a variety of detective assignments; autos, children, CAPS (crimes against people!), homicide, etc. The only one he didn't work was children. He didn't want to deal with the people who hurt children.
Now that Bob is retired, for over 10 years, now, I still wear it. I make jewelry, so I take it off when I wear one of my creations, but otherwise, it's always close to my heart.

How awesome is that! I don't wear anyhing but my wedding ring and the earrings my Dad had made for me last Christmas from My Mom's wedding ring. Just never did. But I love that you have something so special.

Wow, Jan...what a lovely talisman. Thank you to Bob for devoting his life to keeping the community safe. And thank you for sharing in this lovely post!
Bob's career certainly affected your life too - and now that everything is safe and settled, it makes sense to wear that reminder of coming through that life together!
That is really special! What an exciting career he had.
I love Adam 12 - The kids and I watched the entire first season this last summer. We watched it online from Netflix.
