National Young Readers Day

Reading has always been very important to me. When I was growing-up, I always had something to read; and I read everything I could get me hands on. For better or worse, nothing was censored. At the bookstore, I see so many parents censoring their children's' reading, even their older teens. That's amazing.

So, read to the young ones, buy them books, and take them to the library.

Now, there's a storey telling website: Mrs. P. Some television veterans got together and launched it. Mrs. P is like Pippi Longstocking, Mary Poppins and Mr.s Claus rolled into one. She's reading children's classics. Mrs. P is played by Kathy Kinney, who you may remember as Mimi, on the Drew Carey show! There's even a "magic dictionary", on a book stand, where kids can click to find the meaning of a word they aren't familiar with. Mrs. P is geared for ages 3-12 years. The site is still in beta, but worth checking out.
Mrs. P is eccentric, She's stable, but she's leading a really fantastic life. And People who read lead fantastic lives, is her motto.

I used to read 2 or 3 books at a time when I was a kid.

My son had to be cajoled into reading, he just never got into it unless it was a how-to book so I would buy them by the dozens.

it's important to find subjects that keep kids interested.
